The last day of 2017, and tomorrow is the start of a new year, new week and a new day! I am not much for new years resolutions as i believe that you can make a change whenever you want to and don’t have to wait for a new year, new week or new month to make a change. Not to mention that for most people, new years resolutions don’t last. But the start of 2018 which is on a Monday feels like a good time to really commit to a life change or something you know or want to change.
I am not making a new years resolution, instead i am just going to try to focus on my goals all year long and not feel like i have to have accomplished a certain goal by the end of the year!
I want to wish you all a great 2018 – and remember that you can always make a change. You can always decide to do something different and change things in your life if they are not how you want them to be. But also that small steps add up over time. You may be struggling now and think that recovery or reaching your goal is impossible, but think… if you make a little change or take one step forward everyday for the next 365 days, by the end of 2018 you will be amazed at your progress – hopefully. The only way to succeed or recover or reach your goals is to work towards them! You don’t always have to make a huge life change at once, instead small changes and steps! They add up over time.
Also i want to remind you all – because i wish i had been given this reminder several years ago that – just like Christmas – it is ok if you don’t celebrate New Years eve. On social media people will be posting their highlights of the year as well as their New Years Eve celebrations. I remember in the past when i spent New Years eve on my own 2 years in a row and it was awful…. i didn’t mind being alone or not really celebrating… but it was when i saw everyone elses celebrations on social media that i felt awful and like i was weird or should be out drinking and partying. But you know what…. you don’t have to and there are many people who won’t and don’t celebrate New Years Eve and stay up until 00.00 and watch the fireworks and that is ok. It is not strange. I mean, isn’t it better to wake up on January the first and feel refreshed, relaxed and ready to tackle the new day and new year? I mean, who wants to wake up hungover on the first day of the new year? Definitely not me. Infact the past 5 years I have had a tradition that on January the first i go out for a run/walk and start the new year with doing something i love! So don’t feel bad if you don’t celebrate or if you are on your own!
I wish you all a great new year and i am looking forward to the opportunities, memories, experiences and everything else that will happen in the next 365 days!
