I was thinking about making the orange seitan i made during summer , recipe HERE, but making it with tofu instead.
But then i thought…. wouldn’t it be delicious to make some sort of mango sauce with tofu… and that led me to think, mango and orange sauce could be delicious with tofu!
I then realized i am not the first to think about this delicious idea, hahah. And a recipe has infact been made before. RECIPE LINK
However it is in Swedish, so i thought i would translate it and share it in english. Also wanted to share my thoughts/adaptions.
First off… you need to use all the sauce you make because leftover sauce does not taste good unfortunatly.
Two, i used mango which i mixed until smooth instead of mango chutney.
Three… i just recently learned that chinese soya and japanese soya are different i.e one is light and the other is darker. I have never thought about this… so use the light japanese soya!
Four, make sure to fry the tofu crispy before adding the sauce.
Also lastly… it is best eaten directly and not stored because the tofu loses it’s crisp. So just make the amount you will eat right away. HOWEVER, if you want to make a big batch of something, then i can recommend the orange seitan i linked at the start of this post!
1/2 BLOCK TOFU (250G)
100-150ML ORANGE JUICE (FROM ORANGES I.E NOT CONCENTRATE JUICE) -> THIS IS 2-3 ORANGES
PEEL (GRATED) FROM 1 ORANGE
C.A 100ML FROZEN MANGO – DETHAWED & MIXED UNTIL SMOOTH
2 TBSP OIL
2 TBSP LIGHT SOYA
1/2 TSP GRATED GINGER
2 CLOVES GARLIC – CRUSHED
& PEANUTS AND RICE NOODLES TO SERVE WITH
Begin by dicing the tofu into cubes, then placing in a bowl and adding the cornflour. Mix until the tofu is covered in the corn flour.
Then fry the tofu in a generous amount of oil on medium heat. Fry until the tofu is crispy.
In a bowl, mix together the sauce ingredients i.e orange juice, orange zest, pureed mango, soya sauce, oil, garlic, ginger and chilli. Mix until combined.
Lower the heat for the tofu and then add the sauce – it will bubble up a bit, but allow it to thicken (but not burn!). Once it has thickened, then it is done!
Serve with some rice noodles or rice along with maybe some steamed broccoli and crushed peanuts!
