In the past i have made so many variants of pizza:
Cauliflower crust, puff pastry rolls, rainbow pizza , tortilla pizza but i somehow have missed the fact that you can make a pizza crust from sweet potato!
And it is also INCREDIBLY easy. All it craves is 3 ingredients (& water 😉 ). And then of course whatever you want to top your pizza with!
I may love puff pastry pizza and cauflilower crust pizza… but i think that sweet potato crust pizza beats both of them. SOOO soo good. Also i loved that it had this sweet touch because of the sweet potatoes.
I am sure you could make this recipe using normal potatoes, but i am not fully sure so can’t guarantee the results.
If you try this crust… let me know what you think!
Ingredients:
c. 500g (or one medium- large) sweet potato
180g oats – turned into oatflour
1,5 tbsp chia seeds which you mix with water (c.a 3-4tbsp) and let turn into a gel
Salt & pepper
& pizza toppings such as tomato sauce, vegan cheese.
I topped my pizza with vegan bacon, tomatoes, avocado, sweet corn & ruccola
How to:
Begin by peeling the sweet potato and cutting into similar shaped cubes. Then boil until soft (around 15 minutes).
In the mean time, measure out 180g oats and mix – with a food mixer or hand mixer until it turns into oatflour.
Also, mix the chia seeds with water and leave in the fridge for 5-10 minutes until it turns into a gel. If it is too liquid, add more chia seeds. If it is too dry, add more liquid.
Once the sweet potatoes are soft, pour away the water and allow to cool for 30 minutes. Then mash into a puree, mix in the oats, chia seed gel along with salt and pepper.
Then spread out the “dough” on a baking pan with parchment paper. Spread it out evenly and thin so that it cooks evenly and all the way through.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees celsius, and bake the crust for 15-20 minutes. (the thicker the crust the longer it will take to cook – also the edges will most likely get more crispy).
In the mean time, grate your cheese and prepare your toppings.
Then take out the pizza, add your toppings and bake in the oven for another 8-10 minutes!
And then you have an incredibly tasty, filling and nutritious pizza!!
This looks absolutely delicious! Not to mention guilt-free and healthy. Thank you so much for sharing!

Sounds fab! I wouldn’t have thought of making a pizza base from sweet potatoes, definitely a healthier alternative, and easier to make zero waste too!
Thanks for sharing, will be trying this out 😊

you can use ordinary potatoes instead of sweet – I`ve tried this before and it works fine, I make quiche crusts this way as well.

That should work fine 🙂 i also think it works fine to omit the chia seed egg and just use sweet potato and oat flour 🙂
